Jeffrey P. Gardiner, D.O. joined Utah Valley Eye Center in July 2015. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and specializes in cataract, cornea, LASIK and EVO ICL surgery.
Dr. Gardiner had plans to pursue a career in ophthalmology as early as high school. Assisting a group of ophthalmologists on a medical mission to Mexico confirmed this desire. He takes joy in and is committed to helping his patients achieve better vision and improved quality of life. He enjoys serving the Utah Valley community as well as being a part of medical missions to Mali, Africa with the doctors at Utah Valley Eye Center.
He joined our practice after completing a cornea fellowship under the direction of Thomas F. Mauger, M.D. at the Ohio State University Havener Eye Institute. During that time, he received extensive training in corneal transplantation and ocular surface procedures, as well as cataract and refractive surgery. Dr. Gardiner was the first ophthalmology fellow at Ohio State to be presented with the residents’ surgical teaching award for his outstanding surgical skill and teaching capabilities while mentoring the ophthalmology residents in a surgical setting.
Prior to his fellowship at Ohio State, Dr. Gardiner completed an ophthalmology residency at the University of Arkansas under the direction of Richard A. Harper, M.D. In his final year of residency, Dr. Gardiner was recognized as “Resident of the Year”, an award voted on by all of the faculty ophthalmologists and fellow residents he worked with.
Dr. Gardiner grew up in Ogden, Utah. He attended Weber State University where he met his wife, Hilary. They were married shortly before moving to Arizona to attend medical school. Dr. Gardiner loves being back among the mountains where he enjoys biking, hiking, running, and spending time with his five children.
Kristine Dunn, O.D. was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. She and her husband, Jeff, have lived in Springville since 1988 and are the parents of three children.
Dr. Dunn attended Brigham Young University and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She graduated from Southern California College of Optometry in 1983. She practiced in Las Vegas for three years then moved to Utah so her husband could attend College. Dr. Dunn practiced in Provo for 23 years and was privileged to be invited to join Utah Valley Eye Center in 2013. She was voted Best Optometrist in Utah County in 2011 and 2012.
Dr. Dunn enjoys cooking, sewing, and spending time with her family.
Frank Edmunds, O.D. was raised in Mapleton, Utah. He and his wife, Kathy, have lived in Orem, Utah since 1981. They are the parents of eight children and currently have twenty grandchildren.
Dr. Edmunds attended Brigham Young University High School (B.Y. High – the current Provo Library) in 1968. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Brigham Young University in 1976, and in 1981, a Doctor of Optometry Degree from Southern California College of Optometry.
Dr. Edmunds has been practicing in Utah since 1981. He joined Utah Valley Eye Center in 1995.
David Edmunds, O.D. was born in Provo, Utah and raised in Orem, Utah. Dr. Edmunds majored in Biology at Delmar College (Corpus Christi, TX) and Utah Valley University. Following his undergraduate education at UVU in 2010, Dr. Edmunds attended Optometry School at the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois where he was exposed to ocular disease. During his fourth year internship, Dr. Edmunds was able to hone his optometric skills in ocular disease at sites around the country.
Dr. Edmunds joined the United States Air Force after Optometry School and served 5 years in Active Duty. He had the privilege of serving at Eglin AFB, FL and Hill AFB, UT during his service. Dr. Edmunds separated from military service after making rank of Major in September 2019 and joined UVEC. He currently serves in the USAF Reserves where he is able to continue his service to our country.
Dr. Edmunds became board certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry in 2014. He later received his Fellowship from the American Academy of Optometry in November 2018.
Dr. Edmunds enjoys spending time with his family, sports, biking and running. He and his wife Amanda are the parents of 2 sons and one daughter.
Garret Bringhurst O.D. is a board-certified Optometrist with the NBEO and a member of the Utah Optometric Association. He graduated Optometry School from the Arizona College of Optometry as the valedictorian of his class and was recognized for having the highest scores on his board examinations. He was also awarded the certificate for clinical honors, clinical excellence in primary eye care, and the AZCOPT Dean’s Award.
Dr. Bringhurst grew up in Boise, ID and feels right at home here in Utah Valley surrounded by the beautiful mountains. He enjoys spending time outdoors with his family and is an avid sports fan. He loves to play basketball, golf, and tennis and enjoys cheering on the BYU Cougars and Utah Jazz. After graduating High School, he earned a bachelors of science degree at BYU during which time he met his wife, Alyssa. They were married shortly before moving to Arizona to attend Optometry School during which time they were blessed with two beautiful children.
Blaine Bird, O.D. was raised in Springville, Utah where he is happy to reside. He and his wife, Marla, are the parents of four children.Dr. Bird graduated from BYU in 1988 and from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 1992. He was honored to receive awards for ocular pathology and contact lens fitting and was the third year student of the year.
While Blaine and Marla loved Texas, they were happy to return to the mountains and seasons of Utah to raise their family. They enjoy hiking, backpacking, hunting, fishing and sports.
For the next 20 years, Dr. Bird enjoyed owning a successful private practice in Provo. In 2013, he felt incredibly fortunate to be asked to join the highly regarded doctors and staff of Utah Valley Eye Center. Dr. Bird is an active member of the Utah Optometric Association where he has served as a trustee, as well as Vice President of Membership and Vice President of Legislation. He currently serves on the legislative committee. Dr. Bird has twice been voted Utah Optometrist of the Year by the Utah Optometric Association. In July, 2014, Gov. Herbert confirmed the appointment of Dr. Bird to serve on the Utah Optometric Licensing Board. Dr. Bird considers eyesight to be a miracle and loves to help people achieve their best possible vision.
Michael Lloyd, M.D. is an expert glaucoma specialist. He is committed to compassionate care, superior patient satisfaction, and excellence in medical and surgical glaucoma management.
Dr. Lloyd and his wife, Kimberly, are Utah Valley natives. Dr. Lloyd earned an undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University. He graduated from medical school at the University of Texas-Southwestern—a nationally ranked research and clinical medical center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Lloyd completed a residency in ophthalmology and a glaucoma fellowship at the Casey Eye Institute in Portland, Oregon. Under the tutelage of Drs. John Morrison, and Beth Edmunds, he quickly became adept at medical and surgical management for glaucoma including trabeculectomy, laser trabeculoplasty, iridoplasty, and aqueous shunt placement. Dr. Lloyd is board certified in Ophthalmology and an active member of the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Lloyd completed a prestigious research and clinical glaucoma fellowship at the Dever’s Eye Institute in Portland, Oregon with recognized leaders in the discipline of glaucoma: Drs. E. Michael Van Buskirk, Jack Cioffi, Steven Mansberger, and Claude Burgoyne. During his fellowship, he further advanced his surgical skills as primary surgeon in routine and unusual cases, revision of previous and failed glaucoma surgeries and their complications. Also, during his fellowship, he was invited to be a reviewer of articles for the Scholarly Journal of Glaucoma—an activity he still enjoys. He regularly evaluates new advances in the science of glaucoma research, keeping current on the most recent developments in glaucoma diagnosis and therapy.
Dr. Lloyd is a member of the American Glaucoma Society and has given presentations at national and local meetings. He trained and supervised residents in medical and surgical glaucoma management, publishing his findings in the medical literature, and consulted with hundreds of patients with challenging and rare glaucoma problems. His fellow physicians appreciate his compassionate and personal care.
Dr. Jones grew up in Mona, Utah. He married the love of his life, Maurie, in 1990. Dr. Jones attended the University of Utah from 1990-1994. He graduated with honors from the University of Missouri/St Louis School of Optometry in 1998. He worked in Nephi and Delta for seven years before starting his own practice, Advanced Family Eyecare, in 2006. He enjoyed owning his own practice because it allowed him to offer a relationship-based eyecare experience to his patients, getting to know them, addressing their visual concerns, and helping them to see as well as possible. In 2023, Dr. Jones was invited to join Utah Valley Eye Center which he was thrilled to do because they share the same passion for relationship-based patient care.
Dr. Jones loves the variety of opportunities Primary Care Optometry offers to help others. He enjoys taking care of families and is excellent with children. Dr. Jones is excited to educate his patients about the latest technology in both spectacle and contact lenses. He finds solving complex visual challenges fulfilling and enjoys fitting Scleral lenses. He is comfortable diagnosing and treating a wide variety of ocular diseases. The reason he chose to become an Optometrist was he felt protecting the gift of sight would be a worthwhile way to spend a life. He has the patience and knowledge needed to help all individuals understand their individual visual situation and how to protect this precious gift.
When not at work, you can find Dr. Jones hiking the mountains and fly fishing the streams of this beautiful area. He loves spending time and traveling with his wife, Maurie, his children, and his grandchildren.
Michael Christensen, M.D. joined Utah Valley Eye Center in 2023 and is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in comprehensive eye care with emphasis on premium cataract and LASIK surgery. Known for staying at the forefront of the latest advancements in vision correction, Dr. Christensen offers the spectrum of vision enhancing implant technology including Multifocal, Extended Depth of Focus, and the innovative Light Adjustable Lens.
Dr. Christensen completed his ophthalmology residency at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He there received broad surgical training, encompassing routine and intricate cataract surgery, medical retina, and glaucoma management in a diverse patient population.
Dr. Christensen’s interest in surgery began in his undergraduate years with a fascination in human anatomy and physiology. He decided to pursue ophthalmology after discovering a love for cataract surgery. He has been able to provide this service on multiple international medical missions to Africa and South America.
Dr. Christensen was born in South Jordan, Utah. He and his wife Michelle (Mic) have three children and are happy to be living in the beautiful state of Utah.

Todd Cook, M.D., “Dr. Todd”, joined Utah Valley Eye Center in July, 2003. Dr. Cook is committed to quality, compassionate care, superior patient satisfaction, and excellence in oculoplastic and orbitofacial reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. He has been trained by world leaders in the field of oculoplastic surgery, orbitofacial surgery, and ocular pathology. As a recognized expert in his field Dr. Cook has been an invited speaker and surgical course instructor at national and international medical meetings. He has established himself as a leader in the discipline of oculoplastic and orbitofacial surgery through patient care, medical research, teaching, and contributions to the medical literature.
Dr. Cook has held teaching appointments as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology and Attending Physician in Ophthalmology and Oculoplasic Surgery at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at the UCLA Westwood Medical Center, UCLA Harbor Medical Center, Martin Luther King/Drew Medical Center, West Lost Angeles Veterans Medical Center, and the Sepulveda Veterans Medical Center. He has authored numerous scientific papers in the leading medical journals including Archives of Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology, The Journal of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and the Journal of the American College of Surgeons. He has been a reviewer of scientific articles and books related to Ophthalmology, Oculoplastic Surgery and Orbitofacial surgery. Dr. Cook has authored medical textbook chapters, produced numerous surgical instructional videos, invented surgical instruments, and is a regular lecturer at the annual meetings of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute, and the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS). Dr. Cook was appointed Chief of Facial Trauma Surgery at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in 2007 and still holds that position. His primary responsibility is coordinating multi-specialty care for complex facial trauma patients. Dr. Cook performs surgery at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center and Central Utah Surgical Center. He has performed more than 30,000 surgical procedures since opening his practice in 2003. “Dr. Todd’s” outside interests include running and hunting.
After completing medical school at the University of Texas-San Antonio and internship at the University of Utah John A. Moran Eye Center, Dr. Cook Completed a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. This program has been ranked among the top 10 ophthalmology training programs in the United States for the past 10 years. During this time he acquired the finesse of intraocular surgery performing more than 600 intraocular procedures as the primary surgeon including, but not limited to cataract extraction, corneal transplantation, trabeculectomy, pars plana vitrectomy, and laser retinal photocoagulation. Durning residency he learned oculoplastic surgery for Richard K. Dortzbach, M.D. and Bradley N Lemke, M.D. and quickly mastered techniques of plastic surgery related to the eyes and their surrounding structures such as ptosis surgery, blepharoplasty, eyelid repairs, brow lifts, tear duct surgery, and the surgical treatment of thyroid eye disease. He performed more than 200 oculoplastic procedures as the primary surgeon during residency. He also learned ocular pathology in the laboratory of Daniel M. Albert, M.D. and Morton Smith, M.D. Their international referral practice allowed Dr. Cook to examine and diagnose hundreds of rare ocular, and orbital tumors clinically, intraoperatively, and microscopically. Dr. Cook is board certified in Ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Following residency Dr. Cook obtained the premier oculoplastic and orbitofacial surgery fellowship in the world at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA and the Beverly Hills Ambulatory Surgical Center. This two-year fellowship is accredited by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) and the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS). Norman Schorr, M.D. expanded Dr. Cook’s previous training and helped him master aesthetic procedures such as facelifts, mid-face lifts, brow lifts, neck lifts, liposuction, fat transfer, laser skin resurfacing and chemical peels. He also learned to manage complications related to previously failed aesthetic surgery because of Dr. Schorr’s international referral practice of unhappy postsurgical patients. Robert A. Goldberg, M.D. advanced Dr. Cook’s orbital surgery skills focusing on minimally invasive techniques including deep lateral wall orbital decompression, diagnostic orbital fine needle aspiration biopsy, optic nerve sheath fenestration, therapeutic superior ophthalmic vein canulation for obliteration of carotid-cavernous fistulae, percutaneous orbital tumor chemo-therapeutic injection, and surgical excision of orbital tumors. In addition, Dr. Cook became proficient in Mohs surgery for skin cancer excision and reconstruction with the guidance of Jonathan Hoenig, M.D. During the final fellowship year Dr. Cook performed 20 to 30 cases of Mohs surgery each month removing cancers from the eyelids, face, neck trunk and extremities, evaluating the pathologic slides microscopically, and then rebuilding the defect to produce an aesthetically pleasing result. As a fellow, Dr. Cook completed more than 900 major surgical procedures as the primary surgeon.
